Officers located 4 people who had become lost after dark while walking the trails near Little Cranberry Lake Thursday night. The officers were able to get an approximate location for the hikers based upon a cell phone the hikers used having GPS capability.

Friday, May 22

A 23-year-old Anacortes man was arrested near State Route 20 and Christianson Rd for having an outstanding warrant out of Island County for a previous traffic offense.  The man was turned over to an Oak Harbor Police officer for booking into the Island County Jail. 

A woman reported the theft of her vehicle registration form and insurance documentation from her pickup.  The woman was unsure when the theft occurred, but was concerned about possible fraudulent usage of the documents. 

Red painted graffiti was discovered on the brick of an exterior wall on the east side of the City library.  It is unknown who caused the damage. 

A 24-foot ski boat had its fuel line cut and approximately 45 gallons of gasoline drained from its fuel tank.  A battery valued at $100 was also stolen from the boat.  The boat had been parked inside of a garage secured with a contractor’s lockbox at a house under construction in the 2100 block of 20th St.  There was no sign of forced entry into the garage. 

A witness reported hearing a car alarm and then seeing two people drive away from the Port dock in a white “box” style truck.  The truck also struck a parked vehicle as it drove from the dock.  Officers stopped the truck in the 2800 block of Commercial Ave. and identified the driver as a 24-year-old Anacortes woman and a passenger as a 26-year-old Mount Vernon man.  The woman smelled of intoxicants and admitted she was “drunk.”  She also admitted that she had taken the truck without permission to “go for a drive” and that she had struck the other vehicle.  The truck owner was contacted and confirmed that no one had permission to take his truck.  The truck passenger had also been drinking although he was under Department of Corrections supervision that prohibited him from drinking alcohol.  Both people were placed under arrest.  The woman was processed for DUI and provided breath samples above the legal limit.  Both people were booked into jail for investigation of motor vehicle theft and the woman also faces charges of drunk driving, hit and run, and driving with a suspended driver’s license. 

Officers responded to a one car accident on Oakes Ave. near Eagle View Court in which a car was in the ditch.  The driver, a 38-year-old Anacortes man, had a bloody nose and said that he hit his face on the steering wheel.  He claimed that another car had crossed into his lane and he had steered away to avoid a collision causing him to go into the ditch.  His vehicle traveled over 100 feet in the ditch before going up and over a driveway and knocking over a street sign.  The man smelled of intoxicants, displayed poor balance, and commented to the officer that he probably had too much to drink to be driving.  The man was transported to the hospital where he was advised he was under arrest for drunk driving.  He provided two blood samples and faces possible DUI charges upon pending analysis of his blood. 

Saturday, May 23

An officer watched two teenaged Anacortes girls steal a watermelon from an exterior store display in the 900 block of 11th St.  The officer contacted the two teens who smelled of intoxicants.  They admitted that they had not paid for the watermelon and one girl removed a pineapple from under her shirt that she had also stolen.  The same girl also had a large can of beer hidden under her shirt.  The girls admitted to stealing the fruit and drinking a few beers.  The girls were referred to Juvenile Court for theft and MIP.     

A Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputy saw 4 teenaged Anacortes boys allegedly trying to break into a vacant house in the 2600 block of W. 3rd St.  The deputy had seen the boys sneaking around, heard a smash, and then saw an exterior light go out.  The boys were detained for investigation of burglary by the deputy and Anacortes officers.  Inspection of the house revealed several window screens had been cut and removed, but entry into the house had not been made.  The teens, all age 16 to 18, admitted that they had wanted to get into the house to “hang out.”  All 4 teens face charges of attempted burglary. 

A medical office in the 1200 block of 29th Street had its windows pelted with eggs during the night. 

A 48-year-old Burlington woman was cited for disorderly conduct after offending tenants at an Anacortes marina by showering in the men’s bathroom with her husband.  

Someone threw a football sized chunk of concrete through a double paned window on the press box at Daniels Field at Volunteer Park.  The chunk was thrown with enough force to break through both panes of glass and put a hole in the drywall at the back of the press box.  Repair costs were estimated at $500.                            

An unoccupied Honda Civic sustained a damaged hood a grill after being struck by an unknown vehicle in the Whistle Lake parking lot.  It appeared that a larger sized vehicle, possibly a pickup, had backed into the Honda that was owned by a Bayview woman.  

A resident of the 1200 block of 34th St.reported that two juvenile boys had shot his garage door with a pellet gun while he was standing in his driveway.  Two 15-year-old boys were contacted at a neighboring house and admitted to firing the air rifle.  The boys apologized to the homeowner and no criminal charges were sought.  The boys were educated about the City ordinance barring the discharge of air guns within the City limits.  

A 24-year-old Mount Vernon man was arrested for drunk driving after an officer stopped his car in the 1100 block of O Ave. for speeding in the downtown area.  The man smelled of alcohol, admitted to drinking, and failed field sobriety tests.  He was processed and then cited for DUI, and later released to a sober friend.  

Sunday, May 24

A 22-year-old man was contacted at a home in the 1200 block of 29th St. after he had called 911 and told the dispatcher he was thinking about killing himself.  The man was intoxicated and upset over the recent break-up with his girlfriend, and he told officers he could not think of anything else to do other than “end it all.”  The man agreed to accompany officers to the emergency room for evaluation and treatment. 

A purse containing the victim’s cell phone, wallet, identification, credit cards, checkbook, and approximately $200 in cash was stolen from a car parked in the 3600 block of W. 3rd St.  The car’s windows had been left slightly down and that allowed the unknown thief to reach inside and unlock the door.    

A silver iPod valued at $200 was stolen from an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 3600 block of W. 6th St.  The center console and glove box had also been rifled through.

Rocks were thrown through two gold tinted glass windows at a church in the 1200 block of M Ave. sometime during nighttime hours. 

A 23-year-old Lynwood man was cited for drinking alcohol at Whistle Lake after a Parks Department employee had seen him with several cans of beer in violation of park rules.  The man said that he had seen the posted signs that advised of the park rules.  His beer was also dumped out at the scene. 

An officer smelled the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside of a car he had stopped in the 900 block of 13th St. for having a defective brake light.  The driver, a 22-year-old Lynwood woman, said that she did not have any marijuana in the car, but admitted to having a marijuana smoking pipe in the car that she had used a few hours earlier.  The officer found the pipe and the woman was cited and released for possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Monday, May 25

An officer on foot patrol in the 1900 block of 13th St. overheard 3 teenaged boys getting into a car saying that they were “too hammered to drive” and that they should take the back roads.  The officer approached the car as it began to pull away from the curb and recognized the driver as a 17-year-old Anacortes boy.  The driver and one of the passengers appeared to be intoxicated.  They provide portable breath samples that confirmed their alcohol consumption.  The driver was arrested for drunk driving and the passenger for underage drinking.  The second passenger did not display any signs of drinking and was released.  The driver was processed for DUI and provided breath samples that were over three times the threshold for a juvenile driver.  He was referred for DUI and driving with a suspended license.  

A 32” flat panel television was stolen from a detached garage in the 800 block of 31st Street.  The side door to the garage had been left open.  The television was valued at $300.  

A resident of the 1300 block of 8th St. reported that she was suspicious that her neighbor had put an unknown substance on her lawn for the purpose of injuring the resident’s cat.  The resident diluted her lawn with water, but wanted the incident documented. 

A burglary was reported to a classroom at an elementary school in the 1300 block of 41st Street.  An exterior window on a classroom was discovered broken and a laptop computer belonging to the school district stolen from inside the class.  The teacher was working with the police to determine if any other items were stolen. 

Tuesday, May 26

A suspicious man dressed in a wedding gown was reported to be running in and out of traffic on Commercial Ave.  A 27-year-old Anacortes man was and he said that his friends had “dared” him to don the wedding dress and stand in traffic.  He was advised to not use the road to “walk down the aisle.”

A 33-year-old man pushing a shopping cart full of soda and desert items on O Ave. at 2:00 AM was contacted by an officer to determine if had had the store’s permission to remove the shopping cart from their location in the 1500 block of Commercial Ave.  The man claimed he had purchased the items from the store, but the officer noticed the items were in plastic bags from a grocery store located in Burlington.  The man then admitted he had stolen the items and taken the cart without permission from a display in front of the Anacortes store.  He was placed under arrest and cited for theft. 

The owner of a business in the 1700 block of Commercial Ave. reported that he had recently terminated an employee for stealing money from the business.  The employee also allegedly admitted to the owner that he had stolen money from the business on two occasions.  The employer wanted to pursue theft charges and the matter is under continued investigation. 

A Specialized single speed bicycle was reported stolen from the bike rack at the front of the Anacortes Middle School.  The bike was valued at $450. 

Three unlocked vehicles were prowled at a residence in the 1400 block of Lea Place.  Each of the vehicles had been rifled through and the owner was missing a 40-channel CB radio and a Bluetooth charger. 

A thief stole a full 7-gallon gas can from the back of a pickup parked in a driveway in the 6100 block of Parkside Drive.  A tie down strap in the pickup bed was also cut. 

A 15-year-old boy reported that he had given his iPod to a 20-year-old man after the man allegedly threatened to harm him.  The matter is under investigation. 

Wednesday, May 27

Police discovered that a glass panel to the front door of the police station had been smashed.  Police were able to review security camera video and identify the suspect as a 64-year-old Anacortes man who was shown kicking at the door.  Malicious mischief charges are pending as the repair costs were estimated at $500. 

Two 14-year-old boys were referred to Juvenile Court for possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds after one boy brought a dagger to school and sold it to the other boy. 

A plum tree in front of the Depot Arts Center was pushed over and damaged apparently as the result of being struck by a car which jumped the curb.  The offending vehicle is unknown. 

A boat owner discovered that someone had entered his boat moored at a marina in the 1000 block of Q Ave. through an unlocked hatch and had possibly been living on the boat.  The owner found bottles of liquor, women’s clothing and jewelry, and a multi-tool on the boat that did not belong to him.  The owner had no idea who might have been on his boat. 

A mail carrier delivering mail to a house in the 600 block of I Ave. was approached aggressively by a Pit-bull mix dog that was running loose in the yard.  As the mailman backed away from the dog, he fell into a ditch and suffered scrapes and back pain.  A witness was able to distract the dog which allowed the mailman time to get away.  The Animal Control Officer arrived and found the dog running loose in the neighborhood.  The dog was impounded and the owner later contacted and cited for having her dog running at large.  The dog also might be deemed a potentially dangerous as it had gone after the mail carrier on a previous occasion.                 

A man involved in an accident on State Route 20 called his doctor to report that he was having suicidal thoughts and that he was going to be late for his appointment due to the accident.  The man then told the investigating officer that he had thought of several different ways to kill himself.  The man was taken to the emergency room for evaluation. 

A 21-speed-bicycle valued at $500 was reported stolen from a driveway in the 1100 block of 11th St.  The bike had been reportedly locked at the time of the theft.   

Thursday, May 28

A 10-speed bicycle and an 18-pack of beer were stolen from an attached garage at a house in the 900 block of 29th St.  It appeared that the door to the garage had been pried open to gain entry. 

An 11-year-old boy admitted to lighting a small piece of paper on fire and then dropping it into a toilet at an elementary school in the 2600 block of J Ave.  The incident will be handled by school officials. 

A 30-year-old registered sex offender is being investigated for failing to notify officials that he had moved from his home on Devonshire Drive.  The man reportedly moved out approximately three weeks prior to an unknown address out of the area.  He was required to notify law enforcement within 72 hours of moving and provide his new address. 

A fixed blade knife valued at $50 and approximately $30 in change was reported stolen from a home in the 1200 block of 29th St.  It appeared the suspect had pried open the front door to gain entry into the house. 

A 27-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant for a previous theft charge out of Burlington.  She was booked into the county jail. 

A 28-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested at a home in the 1200 block of 30th St. after allegedly assaulting her boyfriend.  The couple had been drinking at a downtown bar and the woman reportedly became upset when her boyfriend wanted to leave.  The man had a bloody wound on his neck that he said was from the woman punching him on their drive home.  The woman was booked into jail for domestic violence assault.
