From Mount Vernon
The City of Mount Vernon is asking residents living in the 100-year flood plain to evacuate.Evacuation is the best option for people to protect themselves in a severe flood event. Recommended evacuation routes are available on the City Website at: https://mountvernonwa.gov/evacuation
I-5 is outside the flood plain and can be used for travel. The Division Street Bridge closes when the Skagit River reaches 36ft. Based on current information, the Division Street Bridge is likely to close at noon on Thursday, December 11.
City Offices and the Library Commons will be closed Thursday, December 11th and Friday, December 12th. Businesses located in the Mount Vernon Floodplain are encouraged to close as well and the public should stay out of the 100 year flood plain area.
Please do not drive over flooded roadways and practice "turn around, don't drown". Follow all road closures and cautionary signs and do not drive around barricades. Water can be deeper and faster moving than anticipated, presenting significant risk to drivers.
