The Washington State Transportation Commission will hold a public meeting on Tues., Nov. 15 and Wed., Nov. 16 at the Anacortes City Hall.
Local officials and community leaders will share insights on the transportation needs and challenges in the regional area, and the public will have the opportunity to offer comment and insights as well. The meeting takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 15, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Nov. 16, in the City Council Chambers at Anacortes City Hall, 904 Sixth St. This is a public meeting and persons wishing to speak to the commission may do so during the public comment period scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
The two-day meeting agenda spotlights speakers from the regional area who will be addressing the full spectrum of transportation, including:
- Reviewing transportation needs in the city of Anacortes, Skagit County and the region, as well as identifying efforts underway to address them.
- Sharing information on the successful collaboration of multiple jurisdictions, service providers and key partners in an effort to maintain and improve transportation facilities in Skagit County and surrounding areas.
- Identifying the critical connections between transportation and economic development, as well as opportunities envisioned by the ports of Skagit County and Anacortes and transportation partners.
- Highlighting the future of transit service in the region and the role partnerships will play.
The commission holds four meetings throughout the state each year to gain insights from local government, industry and citizens regarding transportation issues affecting their communities and region. This information helps commission members develop and implement transportation policies and make recommendations to the state Legislature and Governor for their consideration.
