- Get informed about WSDOT's online tools, including the WSDOT mobile app, traffic cameras and email alerts.
- Visit online traveler information for traffic, weather, ferry schedules and a real-time travel map.
- Follow WSDOT's social media accounts, such as several Twitter accounts and the agency Facebook page.
- Pre-program your vehicle radio to 530 AM and 1610 AM for highway advisory radio alerts.
- Have a backup outdoor destination if your first choice is full. If parking lots are full, find an alternative site and never park along road shoulders, as this is unsafe for everyone on the roadway.
- Allow extra time for travel to avoid rushing or distraction.
- Carry extra food and water as well as extra masks and hand sanitizer as an added precaution for emergencies or unexpected stops.
Washington State Ferries
Ferries are popular every holiday weekend and people boarding a ferry by vehicle should be prepared for long waits. The busiest sailings will be westbound (or onto an island) Thursday, June 30 and Friday, July 1, then eastbound (or off island) Monday and Tuesday, July 4-5. To reduce or eliminate waiting, riders may consider taking an early morning or late-night sailing or walking on.
Before heading to a terminal or boarding, people driving on board should check terminal conditions. Anacortes/San Juan Islands and Port Townsend/Coupeville routes also offer vehicle reservations.
Local and county road closures
We also want to remind you that many local cities, towns and counties have July 4 celebrations and nighttime fireworks planned and will likely have local roads closed and detours in place. Please remember to check with local jurisdictions about any potential road closures before you head out.
