The big surprise of the event was an announcement by Tesoro refinery External Affairs Manager Matt Gill of a $20,000 grant from Tesoro Foundation.
Vicki Stowe, coordinator of the weekend events, said, "This money will allow our students to dig deep in their study of the rich natural environment in which we live – from the forests to the Salish Sea. These enrichment programs are curriculum driven – students will investigate water characteristics, water quality, plus human impacts on the environment and more."
Overall, proceeds from the Friday evening dinner and weekend open public days was just over $90,000..
Dr. Mark Wenzel, Anacortes School Superintendent, emailed the Foundation board, "Fantastic effort everyone! A grateful district applauds you. This will create amazing opportunities for our kids."
The all-volunteer Anacortes Schools Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to foster excellence in education by supporting our local schools. ASF governed by a 21-member board that represents a cross-section of the community.
