Classes are from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at Anacortes Middle School, 2200 M Ave. All courses are six weeks, unless otherwise noted.
The college offers courses to adults 50 years and older. Cost is $30 for a six-week course and $20 for a three-week course.
Tuesday afternoon
- The Human Machine – A three-week course, Dr. Bob Weathers studies the biology of human motion as it relates to physical activity. Emphasis is on the cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine systems. Class meets on January 14, 21 and 28.
- The Joy and Great Ideas of Science – Dr. Jim Ford discusses the ideas, concepts and personalities that shape the understanding and appreciation of the natural world.
- Winter Pruning of Trees and Shrubs – Ani Gurnee teaches pruning methods for a wide variety of ornamental plants such as roses, hydrangeas, and natural plants. This class meets for two sessions, February 11 and 18.
- Forests and Insects: Friends and Foes – Dr. Bob Gara covers major insect orders, examines forest insect ecology, and focuses on insects linked to forest development in the Pacific Northwest.
Thursday afternoon
- Beginning Norwegian – designed for the true beginner, Susan Easthouse instructs the basic sentence structure, vocabulary, and pronunciation of Norwegian phrases and phonetics. Class time will also be used discuss the history and culture of Norway.
- Mysteries of Interpersonal Communication – Dr. Robert Dionne examines the communication styles between men and women, looks at non-verbal cues such as tone of voice and facial expressions, and emphasizes how to truly listen. There will be class interaction.
- Memoir Writing – Teru Lundsten prompts memory and teaches writing tools for sharing life stories, the idea being to bring meaning to life through writing.
