Brandon Robinson running for City Council

Statement by Brandon Robinson, a City Council candidate.

I'm running for Anacortes city council position 5. My name is Brandon J. Robinson and I'm a 25 year old full time college student.

I served honorably for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and a tour to Iraq. I have been a lifelong resident of Anacortes and I'm proud to be the fifth generation of the Robinson family in Anacortes, only leaving while I fulfilled my military service.

In 2012 I was one of the youngest people in United States history to ever run for State Representative; In the 40th legislative district. I launched a campaign at 24 years of age as a GOP-Independent by just barely making the minimum age requirement of 25 before the primary election, however I later withdrew from the race due to personal reasons. I sincerely feel that is a civic duty of mine to serve on my hometown's city council.

I'm running for city council because I feel that its time for some fresh and youthful leadership. Our current city government needs to actually be the ears of our community and and let the people of Anacortes be heard, this will be achieved by having our entire city council become more accountable, transparent, and comprehensive.

There are many issues that I feel skeptical about and need further review from our cities leaders and our community as a whole. We need to stop the industrialization our town. I will see to it that Anacortes will not be turned into a metropolitan city with large factories and other large obstructions but rather keep it to the beautiful terrestrial landscaped small-town it has always been known and acclaimed for by keeping infrastructure to a minimum. Now with that being said, I'm all for making sure the people of Anacortes have the opportunity to get well paying jobs many people including my current generation and unemployed are unfortunately disadvantaged due to the current over inflated economy.

I will make sure that Anacortes will bring in good paying jobs and keep a sustainable growth in our local economy. I have a plan with this current hot button issue, thus being that of the water bottling facility that plans to settle in Anacortes. I have a 50/50 theory on the facility being built here but I firmly believe that it should be put up as a ballot measure rather than a vote from just our city council.

I'm big on the "open door policy" where I encourage residents to get in touch with me and let me know what issues are most important to you. If I become elected I will still continue to have my open door policy and I will encourage our city council and mayor to do the same.
