Richardson will not seek re-election

Richardson moved to Anacortes in 1996, and served for 5 years on the Anacortes Planning Commission before being elected to City Council Position 5 for three consecutive 4-year terms. Although there are no term limits for Council positions, Richardson feels that 12 years is a reasonable amount of time in one position and this is a good time to allow someone else to serve the community in that role.

She said, “To me, serving on the City Council is community service. I feel that my job is to help the Council make good decisions that will make this a better community for current residents and future generations. Hopefully, I have been able to do that over the past 12 years.”

She said she plans to remain active in the community after her term is up at the end of the year.

Richardson's position is one of four up for election this year. Only one person, Brandon Robinson, has filed with the state's Public Disclosure Commission, to run for her seat. No one else has announced for that position.

Seats currently held by Brian Geer, Bill Turner and Erica Pickett are up for re-election. Local businessman Matt Miller has announced he's running for the seat held by Geer, who has announced he's running for Mayor. And, Liz Lovelett, the former owner of The Business, has announced plans to run for Turner's seat.
