His announcement came at Thursday night's School Board meeting. The Board decided to look for a consultant to launch a search for a replacement.
Borgen, who had been on medical leave last year to fight prostate cancer, said, "Please know that this is not in any way a health-related decision. I remain in good health and look forward to what the next stage of life may bring."
In a note to staff, Borgen said, Rest assured, the future of Anacortes School District is in great hands. Our community is blessed with an extremely intelligent and student-focused school board, incredibly gifted, enthusiastic and solution-oriented administrators, talented and efficacious teachers, counselors and certificated staff and one of the most competent, hardest working and supportive classified and exempt staff you will ever witness in a school system."
He stressed that his decision was personnal. "This will also allow Kathi and me to explore other personal and professional opportunities. Please know that this is not in any way a health-related decision. I remain in good health and look forward to what the next stage of life may bring."
