City crews are out plowing and sanding city street. Driving conditions are icy and cars keep sliding off the roads. Problem areas include Highway 20 and R Ave., Oakes Ave. and Anacopper Rd., as well as Sharpes Corner.
Deception Pass Bridge was closed briefly on Monday afternoon due to ice. It was to re-open as soon as a DOT crew could lay anti-icing material.
At noon, the Middle School weather station recorded 21 degrees, with wind at 10 miles per hour and gusting to 30. The wind kicked up late Monday morning, so that by noon snow was blowing nearly horizontal.
Snow hit Anacortes a day or two later than Guemes Is. I had one report that there was 1-2 inches of snow on Guemes on Saturday.
The weather service issued a winter weather advisory for western Skagit County until 10 pm Monday night. Their advisory says to expect accumulations of 1 to 4 inches of new snow. Meanwhile, the weather service also issued a wind advisory, warning that winds could gust to 50 miles per hour. Those winds put the wind chill factor in single digits.
The weather service is forecasting improving weather over the next day, but temperatures probably won't warm up until Wednesday or Thanksgiving.
