The training drill 'victims' brought to Island Hospital appeared badly burned, giving doctors and paramedics a chance to do some realistic training on how to handle serious burns, much like the ones they saw the night of the Tresoro refinery explosion on April 2.
A team from Harborview Medical Center's burn unit schooled nurses and paramedics on what do in the first critical minutes after a victim is severely burned.
A hospital representative indicated the reason live 'victims' were used in this training exercise was the ability for doctors and paramedics to talk with the patients.
The training involved 50 frontline caregivers. The drill cost more than $10,000 and was paid for by Tesoro and a family member of one of the April 2 explosion victims.
