The public event, sponsored by the American Legion and a volunteer Veteran’s Day Committee, will start at 11 a.m. with a brief wreath laying ceremony at Causland Memorial Park. At approximately 11:15 a.m., the ceremony will move to the Transit Shed at the north end of Commercial Avenue for a one-hour indoor patriotic program.
The program will include music with Town Crier Richard Riddell and vocalist Kaitlynn Wollam; a cannon tribute; remarks by Mayor Dean Maxwell, Air Force veteran Colonel Eric Johnson and active duty U.S. National Guard Sgt. Shelby Junkman. To conclude the program, a wreath will be laid in the Guemes Channel, followed by refreshments.
All active and retired military members in the community are invited, and encouraged to wear uniforms. Veterans and active duty military personnel will be recognized.
Also open to the public is the annual Veterans Day dinner sponsored by the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, 6 p.m. at the Eagles Hall basement, 901 7th Street. The meal is free but donations will be accepted.
