During a ceremony prior to the ribbon-cutting, Maxwell, who looked a bit teary-eyed, thanked everyone present for helping rebuild the trestle, which was damaged by a fire last October.
City Parks Director Gary Robinson called the event "our trestle celebration, not the city's celebration but an all-encompassing celebration.' He added, "We all did this and worked together and now we can thank all of us."
The work rebuilding the 300 feet or so of trestle that was destroyed by the October 13, 2009 fire, was completed late last month. The trestle opened on May 28. The community raised more than $300,000 to pay for the work needed to get the trestle open again. Dozens of volunteers did much of the hard work hauling wood and nailing it in place.
Everyone got together for a group photo. View it in The Big Picture section.
