Council approves Shoreline Plan

City Planning Director Ryan Larsen told Monday night’s Council meeting that, following the state review, the legal document should be ready for the Council to adopt and placed into law sometime this summer.

Larsen said he will formally present the shoreline plan to the DOE on March 24 with a public hearing to be scheduled sometime on April 21.

The City Council has been tweaking and changing the proposed shoreline plan for weeks following a review by the Planning Commission. In total, the city held 51 meetings since 2006 to review the new plan.

Mayor Dean Maxwell said “It’s been a long 4 years.” Council member Bill Turner praised the city staff, saying, “I’m very impressed with how thoroughly this has been done.” The plan was approved 6-0, with Council member Kevin McKeown absent.

The new Shoreline Master Program will regulate development along the city’s shoreline. It can be found on the city’s Web site.
