(Updated to include Thursday high temps)
You may have felt it: it’s been warm. Maybe too warm for many of us in Anacortes. Cooler temperatues are on hand starting Friday.
According to anacortesweather.com, Wednesday’s high temperature was 85 degrees at their South Fidalgo weather station. They recorded 83 on Tuesday and 77 on Monday.
The 85 temp was just one degree below last year’s recorded high of 86 in Anacortes, according to Vince Streano, who operates the Web site and weather station for the Mount Erie Fire District.
Streano pointed out that 85 was the high temperature in May 2008 at the downtown Anacortes fire station. Current figures aren’t available from that station yet because it isn’t automated.
And, Streano says the warm temperatures aren’t all that unusual for May & June. Except, he says, weather here has been controlled by a La Nina condition and kept temps a little cooler than normal. He says the National Weather Service reports the La Nina condition has broken, shifting to an El Nino pattern, meaning we can expect warmer and dryer weather in the coming months.
The National Weather Service is predicting a break in this heat wave, with Friday's temperatures being as much as 10 degrees lower than Thursday.
Anacortes has been warmer than Burlington Airport. Take a look at these reported high temperatures:
