Waterfront Festival sails into town

The 19th annual Waterfront Festival will be held Saturday from 10am - 6pm and Sunday from 10am - 5pm,  with festivities centered around the Cap Sante Boat Haven.

There are several educational aspects to the Festival—attendees can take a walking tour of the Anacortes waterfront, check out numerous exhibitors in the “educational alley” and take a tour of a working fish farm on board the Mystic Sea charter boat (there is a fee for this activity). A separate area for children offers the opportunity to build a model boat and to engage in fun crafts.

Live music goes on throughout the weekend on the KWLE 1340 the Whale stage, ranging from local talent to Debra Arlyn, The Apple War, Rise n’ Shine, and The Oregon Donors bands. There is a full complement of food and professional marine related and arts and crafts vendors on hand, with quality merchandise available for purchase.

A Waterfront Festival Kick-Off Dinner, hosted by the Port of Anacortes and presented by the Economic Development Association of Skagit County (EDASC) and the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce will be held on Friday evening from 6:00-9:00 p.m.  The event is located in the Port Warehouse facility at the base of Commercial Ave.  Tickets are $50/person or $390/table of 8 and are available by calling EDASC @ (360) 336-6114.

Stephanie Hamilton, the Program and Event Director for the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce commented “The chamber thoroughly enjoys providing this festival opportunity, which celebrates our town’s historic marine heritage.  The event emphasizes the importance of our waterfront with a very fun, family-friendly event.”

The Waterfront Festival is produced by the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce and made possible through the sponsorship of Shell Puget Sound Refinery.  Additional sponsors include the Port of Anacortes (venue) and KWLE 1340 the Whale (stage).  Special thanks for the additional support of the Skagit Valley Herald, Trident Seafoods, Core Builders, Dakota Creek Industries, Island Hospital, Samish Indian Nation, and Tesoro.
