The cell phone antennas would be mounted inside the flagpole to be built by the wireless carrier, with transmission equipment in a new shed behind the fire station.
The City Council approved the contract Monday night after some Council members voiced concerns. Bill Turner said he was concerned that the cell carrier might want to expand the tower in the future and he wanted to make certain that wouldn’t happen. City attorney Brad Furlong assured the Council that because the construction drawings are a part of the contract, the appearance wouldn’t change.
Brad Adams asked if the flag would fly 24 hours a day and be lighted at night. City Building Director Don Measamer said, yes, that was the city’s intention.
The city will receive $1,010 per month for the first three years, then will increase every year of a 5-year contract. The contract allows for up to 4 automatic renewals, allowing a term up to 25 years.
