Fidalgo DanceWorks will be presenting four performances of the Christmas classic ballet The Nutcracker at Brodniak Hall on the Anacortes High School campus this weekend.
The Nutcracker is the highlight of the performing year for 75 of Fidalgo DanceWorks’ ballet students. Students study with year- round, but starting in late August, much of the activity at the Fidalgo DanceWorks studio revolves around The Nutcracker. In addition to weekly classes that build strength, stamina, and technique, dancers cast in The Nutcracker spend additional time on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the fall learning choreography and rehearsing, often for multiple roles in each show.
Something that makes Fidalgo DanceWorks’ production of The Nutcracker unique is that the choreography varies from year to year. After casting is finalized, Artistic Director Linda Johnston and ballet teachers Alexandria Schafer, Roz Huntley, and Silja Shjarback adapt the choreography of the lead roles to highlight the strengths of thedancers cast. This enables each dancer to showcase their hard work and talent, while remaining true to the beloved story that has been a meaningful part of Christmas for generations.
There are four performances this weekend. One Friday night, two on Saturday (matinee and evening) and one on Sunday afternoon.
Reserved tickets are $31 and general admission tickets are $26 (a senior discount is available for both pricing tiers). Wheelchair accommodations are also available - please contact the studio (information below) to arrange wheelchair seating. Jump to the Fidalgo DanceWorks website for tickets.
