Adventure at the movies

Indiana Jones

There’s adventure in the movies this weekend. These three films are at the Anacortes Cinema. The most adventurous is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Couldn’t they have found a longer name? Anyway, the film is a kick to watch. Its good to see Harrison Ford back as Indiana Jones. The film’s script wandered a bit. A couple chase scenes grew too long. One chase, however, on a college campus, was really fun, though.

Another adventure film is in town, too. Narnia:  Prince Caspian follows in the footsteps of the earlier Narnia, but some reviews indicate its not as charming as the first episode. hough it retains a kid-friendly PG rating and is directed with a surer hand by the returning Andrew Adamson, this film is noticeably darker in tone, even beginning with the piercing scream of a woman in childbirth.

And, if you’re into domestic adventure, what could be more fun than Las Vegas? Okay, the movie What Happens in Vegas isn’t. The most annoying expression-turned-official city slogan ever is now a major motion picture starring Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher. Finally! They play a pair of odd-couple New Yorkers whose initial hostility is followed by more hostility, then by the obligatory race to re-get the girl, this time via water taxi. Happily, the eleventh-hour declaration does not take place in front of a correctly diverse crowd breaking into applause. Small mercies.
