"The Bath," a short film by Anacortes filmmaker Mark Lundsten, shown here with his wife Teru, has won two awards at recent film festivals, both for Best Narrative Short.

The first was in October at the Indie Spirit Film Festival in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The audience chose award-winners at that festival.

The second, chosen by a panel of jurors, was just last week at the Ojai Film Festival in Ojai, California. “The Bath” won the awards at both festivals among wide fields of competing films.

“I feel very gratified and grateful to receive these awards,” says Lundsten. “It should help us to take the next step and make a feature-length film.”

“The Bath,” written and directed by Lundsten, is a 25-minute film about a family struggling with their mother, who has Alzheimer’s and will not take a bath. Just as they are about to give up on her, she teaches them that some bonds go deeper than memory.

Lundsten worked as a commercial fisherman for almost three decades. When he retired from that profession, he gradually transitioned into making films and started the production company Fidalgo Films.

The first film produced by Fidalgo Films was an 11-minute short entitled “So This Priest Walks Into a Bar.” That film was written by Josh Bourland and directed by Lundsten.
