Garden Art Fair this weekend

Visitors enjoy a series of outdoor display gardens specially created for the show.   From small space and container gardens to larger designs with special features, see what’s possible when plants co-mingle with fertile imaginations.

This year the show will spill out into the avenue between 6th and 7th Streets, making even more space for booths and displays.

‘We’re focusing on ‘green gardening’ this year,” says Maria Petrish, Depot Art Center Board Chairperson.   “We’ve added more organic and composting products, organic garden starts and other supplies to make gardening more successful, healthy and satisfying.  No compromising on the aesthetics though; art and beauty are just as much a part of Mother Nature, so we also have a wonderful sampling of Washington–made garden art to enhance the inherent beauty”.

Outdoor sculptures by Seattle-based glass artist Merrilee Moore and local Anacortes artist Arnie Garborg are crowd-pleasing examples of how modern gardens can be adorned.

Inside the Depot Arts Center:

  • An extensive array of stunning orchids from Camano Island’s ‘Out on a Limb Orchids’ welcomes visitors into the gallery’s front entry.
  • Seattle watercolor artist, Keith Artz and  Marysville artist, Dot Stanton
  • Merrilee Moore, in addition to large outdoor installation, a display of votives, candle sticks, glass garden spikes and vases
  • Ikebana & Bonsai displays, The Vancouver, BC Ikebana Association and The North Sound Bonsai Study Group of the American Bonsai Association.
  • Photographs by the Skagit Valley Camera Club showcase stunning landscapes and floral still-life images.

Outside Exhibits and Sales Booths include:

  • Organic garden supplies and plants take their places next to fun and creative yard art, jewelry and outdoor furniture.  Garden fair favorites are the great deals that can be found on spring bulbs.
  • Returning this year to satisfy anyone’s flight of fancy are the popular one-of-a-kind birdhouses made by Seattle-based Top Flight Construction.
  • Other vendors include Grewsome Gardens who have a newly designed line of container gardens at affordable prices to fit anyone’s budget and Klepperglass featuring handmade glass beads, flowers, birds and other garden related jewelry.
  • Pet lovers must sniff out Metal and Mud, breed-accurate metal art to honor favorite companion animals.

With inspiration and ideas flowing, on-site food vendors ensure that there’s fuel for the body too.  The traditional Wine & Beer Garden and an espresso stand are essential Garden Fair elements.

“It’s a fun, relaxed event – a place to spend a few hours, have a picnic in the Madrona grove, find inspiration, great deals and one-of-a-kind treasures to take home to enjoy in your own garden,” continued Petrish. “There isn’t a better place to be on a spring day, no matter the weather.”

The Garden Art Fair will be open Saturday & Sunday 10 am - 5 pm.
