Mayor Dean Maxwell was among those who spoke recently at a rally on the steps of the state capitol aimed at saving the ferry system.

Plans to clean up the former Scott Paper Mill site drew concerns from several people who testified at a public hearing by Port officials. Nearly 50 people crowded the Port meeting room Thursday night for the hearing. 

The 14 Ferry Advisory Committees are on the Governor’s ‘cut’ list. They are part of the roughly 150 state boards and commissions that Governor Gregoire is proposing be eliminated. 

Police responded to a bomb threat at Anacortes High School last week after someone reported finding a note threatening a bomb.

“Coast In, Hang Out” is the slogan for the 2009 tourism campaign of the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce.

In his annual State of the City speech, Mayor Dean Maxwell noted that city tax revenues are down, but said the city’s finances are in good shape.
