The Anacortes Police Department would like to remind everyone to have a safe Halloween.

The city and state are finalizing an agreement that for the state grant of $335,000 for a new spray pad and restroom at Storvik Park.

The city has made some changes to the city’s Web site, for the better according to an announcement released on Wednesday afternoon.

The city has released a draft of the proposed 2016 Comprehensive Plan which includes myriad changes requested by citizens, business leaders and others in the community. The plan provides for an increase in population forecast for Skagit County.

Anacortes Police arrested two residents on drug charges and seized meth and heroin during a raid last Friday at a home on N Avenue, according to information released Tuesday morning.

Following up on a report of activity at a vacant commercial building, Anacortes Police sent one person to county jail in connection with meth and heroin residue found in his backpack. He and a woman were also charged with trespassing. 

Pass Lake in Deception Pass State Park is being closed to all recreational use due to high levels of microcystins, a toxic cyanobacteria. The safe level is about six; the lake is over 1,000.

Rep. Kristine Lytton has been selected by her caucus to chair the state House of Representatives’ influential Finance Committee.

The state Department of Transportation is reviewing old plans for Sharpes Corner, where, in 2008, the state was considering a roundabout. But, with new funding, the DOT is taking another look at the intersection and plans for the roundabout may die in the process.

An old fuel yard in Anacortes is slated for environmental cleanup that could lead to future development opportunities.
