Police Beat

At least one detective from the Anacortes Police Department is involved in the investigation into the shooting deaths of six people in the Alger area Tuesday afternoon.

Anacortes Police Chief Bonnie Bowers says that Captain John Small has been loaned to the more than 100-person task force investigating the killings, as well as other related shootings.

Small had been scheduled to appear at Monday night's City Council meeting for his confirmation and swearing in as Captain. He was recently promoted from Sergeant to Captain.

One Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputy was one of those killed. A State Patrol trooper is one of the four injured in the shootings, which involved a half-dozen separate locations. For more on the shooting story, visit goskagit.com.
