Police Beat

Police and school officials scrambled Tuesday night after learning of a shooting threat that police later determined was not credible.

According to the Anacortes School District's Web site, officials learned from high school parents and students that a threat was made of a possible school shooting during lunch on Wednesday.

The threat was in the form of an anonymous post on Instagram. The post was later removed.

According to the school district, they contacted Anacortes Police who were already investigating. APD contacted Instagram and determined that the person who posted the threat was in the Tacoma area. Police in that area interviewed the individual over night and they determined the threat as not credible.

Anacortes Police notified school district officials Wednesday morning.

"We would like to thank the excellent effort of the Anacortes Police Department. They worked throughout the night, along with colleagues in Pierce County, to ensure our students' safety," said the statement on the school district's Web site.
