Police Beat

APD has received two independent reports from local residents who contacted police after receiving fraudulent calls from someone claiming to be “Sergeant Cook” of the Anacortes Police Department.

The fraudster claims to be calling about the call recipient’s arrest warrants, then attempts to glean personal information.

There are several red flags here: 1. There is not a “Sergeant Cook” working for the Anacortes Police Department. 2. APD will not call you if you have a warrant. We will contact you in person. 3. Very rarely will a legitimate organization of any kind contact you via telephone to obtain personal identifying information.
