Police Beat

Anacortes Police are searching for witnesses that may have seen an accident at about 2 PM Friday at 32nd Street and Commercial Ave.

At about 2:00 PM Friday an adult man was walking his bike north across the west side of Commercial Ave at 32nd Street. He waited at the corner, and then proceeded in to the crosswalk headed north when the WALK signal indicated it was his turn to cross.

Just a few feet from the corner, he was struck by a car and knocked to the ground. He received minor injuries and his bike was heavily damaged. The driver of the vehicle did not stop. The car made a right turn through the intersection, turning from 32nd Street on to Southbound Commercial Ave. and continuing on.

The hit-and-run vehicle is described as a smaller, white "Toyota-type" vehicle in good, clean condition.

The driver, a woman who appeared to be in her 60s or 70s with gray or white hair, was alone in the vehicle.

After being struck and knocked down, the victim got up and hobbled south on Commercial Ave. with his damaged bike. The police were called after he made it to a relative's home.

Did you see this accident? If so, Anacortes PD is seeking your help in trying to identify the driver of the vehicle that left the scene.
