Two Oak Harbor women were killed as a result of a one-car traffic accident Wednesday when their vehicle, which was traveling eastbound, ran off Highway 20 near Reservation Rd. and hit a concrete barrier fronting Sunland Bank and Topsoils.

Both tie driver, 59-year-old Gail Wieldraayer and 84-year-old Lorna Wieldraayer were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where both later died, according to a news release from the Washington State Patrol.

While the investigation continues, troopers don’t believe alcohol or drugs were a factor. Both were wearing seat belts.

Highway 20 was shut down for about 30 minutes while emergency personnel responded
