Two men were medevaced to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle following a late night head-on collision Tuesday night on Oakes Ave. The collision, just west of Anacopper Rd., prompted the closure of Oakes for a few hours following the 10 pm accident.
One of the drivers, a man in his forties who suffered broken bones and head injuries, was found unconscious at the scene, according to Anacortes Police. He was driving eastbound when his vehicle veered across the centerline. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The other driver is an 18 year-old Anacortes man who suffered serious leg injuries as well as other minor injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the State Patrol.
Alcohol was found in the vehicle of the older driver, although it is not clear at this time if the driver was impaired at the time of the accident. Investigation continues.
The Washington State Patrol has taken over the accident investigation, assisted by the Anacortes Police Department.
