Woman in wheelchair struck by car

On Monday, July 28, Anacortes Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of 17th Street and Commercial Avenue in Anacortes. They learned that a woman in a motorized wheelchair had been in the crosswalk at the intersection when she was struck by a car that was turning on to Commercial Ave and headed south. The collision with the car spun the motorized wheelchair, but did not knock it over or, fortunately, injure the victim.

The driver of the car stated through the open window of the car, “I didn’t see you” and then drove off.

The driver of the car is described as a Caucasian male in his 60s or 70s who was clean-shaven.

No license plate was obtained, but the suspect’s vehicle left behind a portion of its left front bumper. Research shows that the suspect vehicle is likely a late-model silver or gray Chevrolet Malibu.

Anacortes Officers would like to speak with the driver of the suspect vehicle. If you have any information that might assist us in locating the driver or the suspect vehicle, please contact the APD TipLine at 360-299-1985. Or ask to speak directly with an officer at 336-3131 reference case 14-A05246.
