The calls usually show a caller ID of X 00000000 or something similar, rather than an actual phone number. If answered, an automated voice advises the caller that their debit card has been inactivated and asks them to use their phone keypad to type in their account number.
This call is a scam. The best strategy is to hang up the phone.
If you have already received a call like this and entered your account number, call your bank and advise them. All phone and internet scams can be reported to the federal government at www.IC3.gov.
