A male subject came in to the store and asked to exchange some five-dollar bills that he was carrying with some five-dollar bills in the cash drawer as part of change he was receiving from a purchase. The clerk used a currency pen to verify his bills and they failed. She returned the bills to him and he left the store, throwing one of the bills in to the garbage as he left.
Anacortes Police Officer T. Dotzauer has recovered that bill and the investigation in to who the male subject is continues. Store owners should be checking currency closley as there are still sporadic reports of fraudulent bills being passed at stores in the Anacortes area.
Call 911 if false bills are observed.
