Police here make arrest in firearms trafficking case

The arrest this week followed an investigation that began in March of 2012 when detectives from the Anacortes Police Department received information from Island County detectives that the Anacortes man might be involved in trafficking stolen firearms. Anacortes Detectives associated the man with a local second hand store that advertised the sale of firearms in their store. Detectives learned the man was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a previous felony drug conviction.

On Feb. 21, after developing further information in the case, search warrants were served on the man’s home, business, and vehicle. Over 35 guns were seized from the home, the business, and a loaded .40 cal pistol, cash, and other evidence from his car.

Bail was set Friday morning in the amount of $50,000. Bond was posted later Friday and the man was released.
