He had been living in the Birchview Memory Care facility for the last 3 years. His body was discovered at the bottom of an embankment in tall grass less than a half-miles from the facility he wandered away from. A resident discovered the body in grass that was 4-5 feet tall.
Coroner Daniel Dempsey said Jones had been dead "for awhile." Cause of death was determined as hypothermia.
Search and Rescue crews conducted searches using horses, dogs, helicopters with thermal cameras and boats to search for him. After their search was called off, family members launched their own effort, with family members coming from as far away as Montana., where Jones was born and raised.
Jones's family had launched a Facebook page supporting the search effort.
