A 20-year-old Astoria man Monday (Aug. 9) was arrested for possession of 33g of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the 800 block of Market Street. The man flagged down an officer to inquire about a police officer he knew. While talking, the officer noticed the paraphernalia sticking out of the man’s pocket. A brief investigation revealed he also possessed marijuana.

Friday, August, 6
At 4:10PM officer responded to a report of a fight brewing at Storvik Park between one individual and a large group of others. Nothing was found on arrival but one officer did locate a lone man who matched the description of one of the persons involved near the park.. He denied any knowledge of the incident and was released. Twenty minutes later a woman residing in the 2400 block of “D”Ave reported that she had returned home to find a thief in her home. The thief was an acquaintance of hers and he fled out a window when discovered. The woman and some friends went looking for the man and located him in Storvik Park. They confronted the man but left the park prior to police arrival. On returning home the woman called the police. Police are following up on the incident.
A 47-year-old man was arrested for DUI following a routine traffic stop in the 700 block of “O” Ave. An officer observed a vehicle speeding and as he caught up to it, the vehicle turned abruptly. The driver showed obvious signs of intoxication and after failing field sobriety tests was arrested and transported to the Police Department for a BAC.
Saturday, August 7
A 29-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for assault 4th domestic violence after he dragged his wife across the floor and kicked a hole in the wall of their home in the 2100 block of “E” Ave. The man was reportedly upset that the woman was out all night. The woman did not sustain serious injuries.
Sunday, August 8
A 39-year-old Forks man was arrested for public indecency after he reportedly urinated in one of the vendor tents set up in the 400 block of Commercial Ave.. Police located the man a short time later sitting in the alley outside a local establishment. As police were finishing up with that arrest a man came towards them from a parking lot on 4th St. Officers noticed the man took off his blue shirt and cap and threw them on the ground. The man told officers that someone was after him. A short time later officers received a report that a man wearing a blue shirt and ball cap had been observed by private security officers urinating in another Art Festival tent and had run way when confronted. Officers cited the 25-year-old Oak Harbor man after he was identified by a security officer.
A 54-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for violating a restraining order and malicious mischief domestic violence after he threw a rock at the windshield of a relative’s car. The incident occurred sometime overnight in the 1500 block of 7th St. Previous court orders forbid the man from being at the address. The man told officers that he felt that he had been wronged by his family over money issues.
Someone took the left side turn signal-marker light lens cover off of a 1992 Toyota truck overnight. The truck was parked in a driveway in the 900 block of 26th St.. The lens is valued at $50.
A 30-year-old Anacortes man was cited and released for malicious mischief domestic violence after he broke and damaged some items outside of a family member’s home in the 3000 block of Oakes Ave. Reportedly the man became angry at family members and left the residence breaking off the porch handrail and denting a truck with another item as he left. He was located a short time later by officers and was cited and released.
Monday, August 9
Police are following up on leads in a business burglary in the 2100 block of Commercial Ave. Police received an alarm at the business and discovered a door had been forced open. It appeared the thief only made off with a small amount of change.
Police arrested a 20-year-old Anacortes man after he reportedly choked his 19-year-old girlfriend during an argument at their residence in the 3800 block of “R” Ave. It appeared that both parties were active participants in the altercation until the man allegedly held her down by placing his hands around her throat.
Officers are looking for a 23-year-old Stanwood man in connection with two thefts at a Coffee stand in the 1000 block of 13th St. Baristas reported that the man took their tip jar and ran off with it shortly before noon. The man was identified as the same suspect who allegedly stole the tip jar earlier this summer. The man has several outstanding warrants for his arrest and police have not been able to locate him yet.
Officer’s responded to a 911 hang up call in the 2000 block of 26th to discover that a dog had been chewing on the phone and hit the 911 speed dial.
Tuesday, August 10
Officers responded to a fight in progress in the 1400 block of 10th St. were unable to locate anyone fighting but did stop a car matching the description of the suspect vehicle a short distance away. None of the cars occupants admitted to fighting but the 20-year-old Anacortes man who was driving the vehicle was arrested for DUI, and two of the passengers an 18-year-old Anacortes man and 18-year-old Anacortes woman were arrested for minor in possession/consumption of alcohol.
A black “Hard Rock” Mountain bike valued at $1,000 was reported stolen from the 1200 block of 20th St. The bike’s owner had left the bike for less than 20 minutes unsecured next to his back porch.
Wednesday, August 11
Witnesses identified a 25-year-old Anacortes man as passing 2 account closed checks at a local electronics store earlier this month. The man purchased over $500 of merchandise and than returned some of it for cash. The investigation is continuing.
Thursday, August 12
A Kubota diesel tractor and backhoe attachment were stolen from the yard outside a business in the 2600 block of Commercial overnight. The tractor and backhoe attachment are valued at $19,000. Police have entered the tractor into NCIC as a stolen vehicle.
A 26-year-old Anacortes man reported his grey “Fit” brand BMX bicycle was stolen from in front of the police department. He said when he came out of the building after a court appearance the bike was gone. Police are reviewing the surveillance footage of the public safety building.
A silver cuff style bracelet depicting loons and a crescent moon was taken from a vendor table sometime between 3pm Saturday and 10AM Sunday of Arts festival weekend. According to the artist her work was displayed outside of a store in the 600 block of Commercial Ave. When it started to rain the table was moved inside the store. She believes that is when the bracelet was taken.
Friday, August 13
A resident in the 3200 block of “F” Ave. reported missing some jewelry and a Microsoft Zune missing from her residence after some uninvited guests were at her house Monday night with a mutual friend. Officers questioned the individual believed to be responsible for the theft and he denied any involvement.
A 50-year-old Nevada man was arrested as a fugitive from justice after police received a tip he was working at a business in the 400 block of Commercial Ave. The man had been convicted of embezzlement but had fled the state prior to sentencing. Officers located the man hiding in a closet, arrested him, and booked him into the Skagit County Jail.
Police received a report of a infant that had been accidentally locked in a car in the 5600 block of Kingsway. Officer Liddle responded and opened the vehicle for the baby’s mother.
