The Police Blotter, July 3, 2010

A 62-year-old Anacortes man was cited for discharging a weapon in the city limits and intentionally wounding an animal after he fired 2 blow darts at his neighbor’s dog. The incident on Thursday, June 24 occurred in the 800 block of 37th St.. The man was reportedly frustrated over his neighbor’s dogs barking and aggressive behavior. Police had not received any previous complaints about the dogs.

Thursday, June 24

A chrome Grill Master brand gas barbeque valued at $300 was taken from a back yard in the 3600 block of West Third Street. 

Two boys were questioned and released following a malicious mischief incident at Storvik Park.  One of the boys allegedly kicked a loose board off one of the towers.  The board was taken to the Parks Dept. for reinstallation.

Friday, June 25

A 24-year-old Eastsound man was cited for possession of marijuana following a routine traffic stop at 13th St. and “D” Ave.  An officer observed the vehicle not stop for the stop sign at the intersection and pulled the vehicle over to warn the driver.  When the officer approached the vehicle he could smell an overwhelming smell of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment.  The driver of the vehicle claimed ownership of the marijuana. 

A 23-year-old Anacortes man was cited for possession drug paraphernalia after he was stopped by an officer on Whistle Lake Rd. for using his cell phone while driving. The driver became suspicious after it appeared the driver was trying to hide an item.  When the officer asked if the driver was hiding anything, the driver produced a pipe that he claimed to have smoked methamphetamine with.

Saturday, June 26

A 59-year-old Anacortes woman was booked into Skagit County Jail after she was arrested for shoplifting, driving without a license, and an outstanding warrant for theft.  Officers responded to a grocery in the 1500 block of Commercial Ave. on Saturday after a woman tried to leave the store with $124 worth of beer, cooked crab, and toilet paper.  The woman told the store clerk that she needed to go out to car and get her checkbook.  She then drove away.  The store employees and officers were familiar with the woman from previous contacts and officers arrested her a short time later in the 1100 block of 11th St. 

Sunday, June 27

Two teens were cited for Minor in Possession/Consumption of Alcohol during two different incidents overnight.  Both were passengers in vehicles that exhibited erratic driving on the SR 20 Spur.  In the first incident an officer observed a vehicle traveling slowly in the left hand lane of SR 20 and not moving to the right for faster traffic.  After numerous cars were backed up behind the vehicle the officer stopped it.  The driver was cited for a lane travel violation and his 18-year-old female passenger was cited for MIP.  In the second incident the driver pulled off the roadway suddenly at SR 20 and Fidalgo Bay Rd.  The driver told the officer he was the designated driver but had a little to drink.  A 19-year-old Anacortes man who was a passenger in the car was arrested for MIP.

A 32-year-old Anacortes man was arrested for Assault 4 DVPA after his wife reported she was assaulted at their home in the 1800 block of Down Jones Way.  Both subjects appeared to be intoxicated and both had injuries that indicated a physical altercation had occurred.  Officers determined the man was the primary aggressor in the assault and he was booked into jail.

A 41-year-old Anacortes woman was arrested for violating a domestic violence protection order.  The incident occurred in the 900 block of 25th street after police received a complaint of a loud argument coming from a residence.  An officer observed the woman in the residence and knew from previous calls that she was court ordered to not be there.  On two previous occasions earlier in the week the woman left prior to the police being called.

A couple passing through the area from California reported that they had a purse stolen from their car outside a fast food restaurant in the 1300 block of Commercial Ave.  The canvas purse contained a debit card, checkbook, sixty dollars in cash, and personal item. 

“A male  Rottweiler  mixed breed dog and his owner are facing a potentially dangerous dog declaration after boss bit a cyclist on the Little Cranberry Lake Trail.  The dog was on a leash but still bit a 27-year-old Anacortes man in the leg.  This is the second time the dog has bitten someone in the forestland. 

A 19-year-old Anacortes man reported a long board, purple skate board, and a red and black mountain bike were stolen off the front porch of his residence in the 1300 block of 7th St.

Thursday, July 1

Police are looking for a 23-year-old transient following his identification as a suspect in the theft of a tip jar from a coffee stand in the 1300 block of “O” Ave.  Several witnesses watched the man take the tip jar and toward a nearby apartment complex.  A short time later he came out, got into a brown Honda and left.  The investigation is continuing. 

A business in the 1000 block of Second St. reported a computer tower valued at $800 was taken from the business within the last week.  The tower was unplugged from the other components and removed. 

Police contacted 4 men trespassing after dark on park property in Smiley’s Bottom.  One of the men had an arrest warrant from Whatcom County and was arrested on the warrant.  Officers were checking the wooded area in the bottom due to previous issues in the area.
