An Anacortes High School teacher and two students have been disciplined in connection with vandalism in Brodniak Hall last January. School Superintendent Chris Borgen said "Harsh and appropriate district and legal disciplinary action" was administered to the teacher.
Two students, using keys, were seen in security video, going into the high school and disabling security cameras. Once inside, they spray pointed BEHS2010 on doors they had removed from their hinges. Other damage was also done.
According to a statement by Borgen, "Two students confessed to participating in this event and also stated entry was made into the school with a key and alarm code given to them by an Anacortes High School teacher." He also said the teacher admitted to helping the students plan the event and giving them the key and alarm code. The Anacortes American identified the teacher as Val Boyce.
Borgen said the two students were also administered disciplinary action, but he didn't say what the discipline involved. The American said the students were given short-term suspension and the teacher was given a 5-day suspension without pay.
