In a brief appearance at the City Council, Bowers said her best estimate was that there were at least 6,000 bikes on Commercial Ave. and adjoining streets on Sunday. But, he refused to hazard a guess how many people were buzzing around town.
Bowers said there were no serious problems, but said there were 6 DUI arrests Saturday night, a bit higher than a typical Saturday night. No serious accidents were reported here, but there were two motorcycle accidents on the highway 20 offramp at Interstate 5 over the weekend. The State Patrol said the prime cause was speeding on the ramps.
The State Patrol had forecast possibly as many as 25,000 motorcycles would participate in the Oyster Run. If there were that many, they all didn't make it to Anacortes. Many stop at other towns, like Conway, or simply take the opportunity for a nice weekend ride on Skagit County's roads.
