Ferry supporters ready for Sidney run

Clark, who is also the head of the Anacortes Ferry Action Committee, an advisory body to the ferry system, said in a message to ferry supporters “If the elimination of the run occurs in September as planned, this would be the last such celebration.”

He said that many friendships are renewed and many commercial, cultural, and aesthetic connections are reestablished each Spring when the Sidney run resumes.

Clark said “Working with the City of Anacortes, the City of Sidney, the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce, the Anacortes Sister Cities Association, and many others, our plan is to leave Anacortes with a large delegation of Anacortes folks, stop in Friday Harbor and gather folks from the islands, proceed to Sidney, enjoy a brief celebration, then gather folks from Sidney for the return trip to Anacortes for part 2 of the celebration.”

Clark said legislators will be invited, but noted that they will still be in session and will probably be busy working on such things as a state budget. But, he suggests the sailing, on March 29, will be “a unique opportunity for representatives of all affected communities to be in one place at one time.”
