2009-0107_bill_evans.jpgThe assistant football coach at Anacortes High School, Bill Evans, has been selected to become the Varsity Football Coach. The School Board approved the selection Thursday morning.

In a  joint statement, AHS Principal Pam Estvold and Athletic Director Rick Mergenthaler said "When the head football vacancy occurred, the superintendent and high school administration team met to discuss possibilities. It quickly became apparent that the best candidate for the job was already in our own building.”

Estvold and Mergenthaler added “ Mr. Evans is an exemplary role model for our young men and women.”

School Superintendent Chris Borgen said “Mr. Evans is an exceptional instructor with high expectations, yet connects with students & athletes and motivates them to greater performances than they thought possible.”

Evans has served as the assistant coach for eleven years and also teaches wrestling and golf.
