The City Council has okayed a 4 percent pay hike for Teamsters Union employees for the city. According to city human resources directory Emily Schuh, the raises are similar to what other city employees will be getting.

The Council Monday approved a four year contract with Teamsters local 231 that calls for cost-of-living increases of 4 percent this year, 3.4 percent in 2010, 3.25 percent in 2011 and 4 percent in 2012.

The agreement covers city employees who work in the Public Works Department, including workers at the city water and waste water treatment plants.

Schuh says other city employees will see increases from 3.5 percent to 4 percent. The city is currently negotiating with the union for firefighters.
