Anacortes City Councilman Bill Turner, a Democrat, is trailing in his race for a County Commissioner position against Republican Ron Wesen, with a 45 percent to 47 percent margin.  

In the other County Commissioner race, voters are re-electing Ken Dahlstedt as County Commissioner over Republican challenger Don Gordon. Dahlstedt has a 12-point lead over Gordon in early returns.

Meanwhile, Al Littlefield, appears headed for victory for the district 1 seat on the Public Utility District commission. He is leading challenger Ken Kukuk, with 61 percent of the votes versus Kukuk’s 38 percent.

In ballot propositions, PUD Proposition 1, a request for authorization to get into the electricity business by purchasing Puget Sound Energy’s Skagit infrastructure, is trailing by a 48 percent to 52 percent vote.

SKAT’s Proposition 1, which would add a 0.2 percent sales tax in the county for public transit, is ahead by a 51.4 percent to 48.6 percent margin.

Democrat Kevin Ranker, from San Juan island, is leading Republican Steve Van Luven to represent the 40th District, including the northern half of Fidalgo Island, in the State Senate. And, Democrat incumbent Dave Quall is having no trouble holding on to his 40th District seat in the state House of Representative, 

In the 10th District, which includes south Fidalgo island, Democratic state Senator Mary Margaret Haugen has a comfortable lead over Republican challenger Linda Haddon. And, recently-appointed state Representative Norma Smith, a Republican, is losing to Democrat Tim Knue of Concrete for the 10th District House seat.Voters appear to have given Representative Barbara Bailey, a Republican, the okay for a fourth term over challenger Patricia Terry.
