Traffic and safety improvements at the 32nd Street and M Avenue intersection will include a roundabout, rapid flashing beacons at pedestrian crossings and lane width reductions. The anticipated results will be traffic calming, collision reduction and improved traffic flow.
There will be detours in place for the duration of construction. Drivers will be directed down some neighborhood streets that do not typically see any large volumes of traffic, so please be respectful with regard to your speed.
The intersection will be completely closed during construction, even after work hours. This allows for worker safety and the ability to get the project completed in a shorter time-frame.
Ferry traffic that typically uses the 32nd Street and D Avenue route will be directed to Commercial Avenue to 12th Street/Oakes Avenue to the ferry. The detour will reflect this, but somehow GPS will tell folks otherwise. Please follow the signs.
The 32nd Street and M Avenue intersection was identified in a city road safety plan to be one of four hot spots that could potentially benefit from systemic safety improvement projects.
Project construction is funded with $1,7 million in funds from the Federal Highway Administration.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of July.
