Anacortes School District says its staff is continuing to work on multiple facets to prepare for fall schools reopening.

A district steering committee, composed of principals and directors, teachers, our district nurse, operations staff, and employee bargaining unit representatives, is meeting weekly with new Superintendent Justin Irish to develop a model to meet the needs of staff and students and prepare for a safe reopening of Anacortes schools.

A community stakeholder group also meets every other week to review the district’s plans and provide input. This group is composed of City and County leaders, the Port, parents, students, and other community agencies.

The district is continuing to develop a hybrid model that will prioritize in-person learning for our early learners, students who receive special services, and students who receive English Language services. We are also creating a full-time K-12 remote learning school.

More detailed information about the plan can be found on the district's website: https://bit.ly/ASDFall. Or view these YourTube videos on preparations.

Next Steps

Families will receive an electronic survey during the week of July 27 to make a preliminary selection about the model they plan to choose. This data will help the school district to finalize plans for reopening; to ensure the resources needed to maintain student and staff safety.  All families will need to make their final selection and registration between Aug. 17 through Sept. 4 using Skyward Family Access. See the ASD website for links to Skyward Family Access and information on how to set up the parent account.

The district has scheduled several virtual Q&A sessions that are open to staff, students, families and the general public.
