In honor of his wife, Dr. Sylvia Maxson, Dr. Robert Maxson has donated $100,000 to the Anacortes Public Library Foundation to support the children's wing at the Anacortes Library. The wing will be named the Dr. Sylvia Maxson Children’s Library.

Sylvia, an expert in early childhood education, has spent her life committed to children’s education and literacy both in her personal and professional life. Upon moving to Anacortes, she threw all of her energy into supporting the youth in our community. Her passion for books, learning and literacy naturally engenders a love for libraries. Sylvia’s belief is that a library is a community; with a never-ending portal for lifelong education and learning.

Due to this belief and her undying love for children, she has a special place in her heart for the children’s library.

Dr. Maxson’s excitement for all of the improvements planned for the library encouraged this desire to help support the children’s library. They strive to share her message of the importance of libraries, books, education, and literacy for children.

In honor of Dr. Sylvia Maxson, the Anacortes Public Library will be installing a plaque, in her name, near the entrance of the children’s library.
