Mayor Laurie Gere has appointed Jonn Lunsford as city Parks & Recreation Director following the retirement of Gary Robinson

Mayor Gere conducted a nationwide recruitment process for the Anacortes Parks and Recreation Director.  The City received 28 well qualified applications and a 11 member community panel interviewed 8 candidates.  Following the interviews, the City hosted a candidate forum that provided an opportunity for key stakeholders to meet the candidates and weigh in on the process.

Mayor Gere said, “We conducted a national search and found the best qualified candidate here in Anacortes.  I look forward to working with Jonn, the Parks and Recreation staff, and the community through this transition in leadership.  Mr. Lunsford brings 17 years of servant leadership and a wealth of knowledge about the complexity of managing our parks, trails, and the Anacortes Community Forestlands.  He understands the diverse responsibilities of managing the department and is a stalwart believer in the importance of public involvement and process.   I am excited about the future for the department, expanding recreational opportunities, and growing the stewardship of our natural resources.”

Lunsford said, “I am honored to be selected to serve as the Parks and Recreation Director.  Anacortes is my home and I truly believe that community involvement is key to our success.  Anacortes Parks and Recreation staff and I are committed to providing the environmental stewardship necessary to protect our local treasures for future generations.  I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to the challenge as we move forward.”

Lunsford will begin his new role on Tuesday January 8, 2019 following City Council confirmation of the Mayor’s appointment.
