Puget Sound Energy reports that power has been restored to all but a dozen or so Anacortes electricity customers following a power outage that, at its peak, had the entire Fidalgo Island and Gueues Island in the dark.
Power failed a few minutes after 9am across the island. The problem seemed to be centered at the corner of 41st St. and H Ave, where high voltage power lines apparently were blown close enough to each other to cause arching. That caused lights to dim and surge several times before power went out, possibly after blowing a circuit breaker.
Some nearby residents reported seeing flashes and hearing a couple of booms, as well as humming noise ahead of the power outage.
As PSE-contract crews worked through the night, power was restored to some areas, then went off again. Much of the island regained power at around 1am, but areas east of A Ave got power restored as late as noon.
