New Veterans Memorial dedicated

New war memorial

A new Veterans Memorial Plaza was dedicated at the high school during a ceremony this week. It will act as a replacement for the old War Memorial Field which will be the site of a new high school building.

Among speakers at the Wednesday afternoon dedication was Matt Miller, a retired Navy officer who served on the Veterans Memorial Committee. Also pictured at the podium are committee members Richard Iversen (USAF retired) and Eric Johnson (USAF retired).

Veterans Memorial architect was Brooks MIddleton, who used five rusted metal plates to represent the five branches of the U.S. military. Several hundred people attended the dedication ceremony, which featured a flyover by jets from NAS Whidbey.
