APD is hosting the National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign that promotes public service/community partnerships and neighborhood comradery to make our community a better and safer place to live, this Tuesday, from 6-8PM in Storvik Park.

The family friendly event will include demonstrations from local emergency response organizations as well as local businesses and non-profits. In addition to booth and vehicle displays, there will be stage events to include a live performance by Anacortes band Sky All Around and a candlelight vigil honoring fallen law enforcement officers. Over 16,000 communities throughout the world will participate in this ongoing effort to prevent crime and strengthen communities. We hope to see you there!

National Night Out was established in 1984 with funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), U.S. Department of Justice.

The program is administered by the National Association of Town Watch, a nationwide organization dedicated to the development, maintenance, and protection of community-based, law enforcement-affiliated crime prevention activities. National Night Out was developed as a crime prevention program that emphasizes building a partnership between the police and the community.

Community involvement in crime prevention is generated through a multitude of local events, such as block parties, cookouts, parades, con- tests, youth activities, and seminars.
