The Port of Anacortes of Anacortes will have two new Commissioners as a result of Tuesday’s election, as John Pope and Joe Verdoes take early and sizable leads over their opponents.
For Commissioner Position 4, Pope has a lead over incumbent Pat Mooney, with 2,707 votes (or about 55%) for Pope and 1,378 votes (about 34%) for Mooney. For Position 3, Verdoes leads with 2,568 votes to Judy Berentson’s 1,409 votes. That’s about 65% to 35%.
The levy for Fidalgo Pool is passing with 2,249 yes votes (68%) to 1,059 votes (32%).
The County Auditor reported that a countywide total of 14,363 ballots have been counted with an estimated 4,000 left to count. The Auditor also reports turnout was about 21%.
Other races, including for three City Council seats, three School Board seats and two seats on the Island Hospital District had only one candidate each running.
When it comes to Initiative 1366, backed by Tim Eyman, leads in Skagit County by 58% to 42%, and statewide by 54% to 46%, as of 9:30 pm.
